‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Box Office Prospects Have Improved

Due to a series of  studio restructurings and release date shifts, Star Wars: Episode IX‘s box office prospects have improved greatly.

The film is currently set for a December 20th, 2019 release date and most studios are smart enough not to try and compete with a Star Wars film. Many other films, however, were still set open close enough around the same time and  could have potentially hurt its box office haul. However, due to a series of delays and shifted release dates, this may no longer be the case.

With the delay of Wonder Woman: 1984 to June of 2020, the latest Terminator reboot has moved into its former November 1st slot. The film was originally set to be released on November 15th. In addition the next James Bond film has been moved from November 9th to February 14th of 2020 due to change in the film’s director.

In addition, thanks to the Disney/Fox deal, the latest Hercule Poirot film and sequel to Murder on the Orient ExpressDeath on the Nile, has been pushed back to October 22nd of 2020. The film was originally set to be released on the December 20th of 2019 and would have directly competed with Star Wars: Episode IX. This would have undoubtedly resulted in a quick death for Kenneth Branagh new take on the iconic detective.

The only film, strangely enough, that seems intent on sticking to its original release date is the untitled Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel which is currently set to be released on December 13th of 2019. The previous film did surprisingly well in the holiday season of 2017, eventually surpassing Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the weekend box office once the new year began. Whether or not the film will manage to recapture that same lightning in the bottle, however, remains to be seen.

The next Star Wars film stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russel, Matt Smith, Dominic Monaghan, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, and Mark Hamill.

This American Horror Story: Apocalypse Theory May Explain the Timeline Problems

This American Horror Story: Apocalypse Theory May Explain the Timeline Problems

The article may contain spoilers about American Horror Story: Apocalypse!

Once Ryan Murphy revealed all the American Horror Story seasons were connected through the same shared universe, fans started piecing together the overarching timeline to discover how the events of one installment line up with the rest. This was all going swimmingly until Apocalypse, when the seeming end of the world happened BEFORE events we had already seen taking place in a world that very much existed. The extensive flashbacks this season (including flashbacks within flashbacks) further convolute the timeline, which results in headaches for anyone who tries to piece the storylines together. So let me quickly break it down for you:

2012: Michael Langdon (Cody Fern) is born.

2015: Michael leaves the Murder House to be with the Satanists.

2017: Michael arrives at the Hawthorne School, performs the Seven Wonders, and Madison (Emma Roberts) and Behold (Billy Porter) visit the Murder House.

2020. The apocalypse goes down.

2021: Michael arrives at Outpost 3, kills everyone and the witches show up.

2022: Billie Dean (Sarah Paulson) interviews John Lowe’s (Wes Bentley) ghost in Hotel.

So how did Billie Dean attend Devil’s Night at the Hotel Cortez in 2022 if the Antichrist had already set off the nuclear apocalypse in 2020? We might actually have an answer for you, and it’s tied to another of the big mysteries this season: Mallory (Billie Lourd).

Mallory has been clearly marked as Important since her run-in with Michael during the interview process in Episode 3. But what really piqued interest in her regarding the timeline confusion didn’t come until Episode 5 when Myrtle (Frances Conroy) saw Mallory not only resurrect a dead deer, but turn it into a young fawn. It was as if Mallory was able to reverse time for the deer, undoing its wounds and its aging. That instantly set off major foreshadowing alarm bells, leading many to think that if Mallory’s powers develop enough, she could potentially turn back time on a larger scale, reversing the events of Michael’s apocalypse and therefore saving the world.

The idea of this entire season eventually being reversed does feel like an easy cop out, but it would solve the continuity error within the Hotel epilogue. Lending more credibility to this theory is the fact that the final image of Apocalypse‘s opening credits is a shot of a candle going out in reverse, so clearly the theme of reversing events is woven throughout the season, whether it’s as literal as this theory suggests or not.

The fandom seems to be split about what this could mean for Mallory and what she truly is. Some suggest she’d have to be the next Supreme to have that sort of power, while others wonder if she’s the second coming of Christ. There are others still who believe she may be an angel or even just an extremely powerful but otherwise normal witch. Whatever she is, it does seem highly likely that Mallory will be the key to reversing the events of this season or, at the very least, using her powers demonstrated in the deer incident to stop Michael.

As Reddit user ccaelesti pointed out, Mallory’s powers in resurrecting the deer were mirrored in Michael’s powers in killing the Murder House owners in Episode 6. The pair appear to be the yin and yang of each other, with Michael’s abilities bringing about destruction and Mallory’s bringing about life. The same mirroring of their abilities can be seen in how Constance (Jessica Lange) tried to cover up the deaths of animals at Michael’s hands under her rosebushes, while Mallory created life from a rose when she turned one into butterflies.

In nearly every way, Mallory and Michael appear to be the inverse of one another. This dynamic gives even more credence to the idea that it will be Mallory who has to recreate the world after Michael destroyed it, whether that’s by reversing the timeline — which would solve a lot of continuity errors — or by building a new world out of the rubble. But unless this new world also includes a footnote about how Billie Dean and the Hotel Cortez survived the apocalypse, we’re going to bet our money on the timeline reversal.

American Horror Story: Apocalypse airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on FX.

American Horror Story: Is Mallory the Key to Reversing the Apocalypse?

American Horror Story: Is Mallory the Key to Reversing the Apocalypse?

The article may contain spoilers about American Horror Story: Apocalypse!

It’s always the quiet ones, isn’t it? For the past five weeks, American Horror Story: Apocalypse has woven a surprisingly complicated tale of witches, warlocks and even the occasional cyborg. But maybe we should be paying more attention to the character with the least amount of screen time: Billie Lourd‘s butterfly conjuring badass, Mallory.

From the moment she stood up to Michael in Episode 3, resulting in a fiery confrontation that sent the Antichrist crying to his daddy, it was clear that she was “special.” And viewers wasted no time drumming up theories about her true nature: Could she be the next Supreme? A direct descendant of Lady Gaga’s Scathach, perhaps?

Based on what we’ve seen, I agree that Mallory will play a key role in undoing the damage inflicted by Michael’s apocalypse, but I don’t think she’s a witch at all. In fact, I’m going one step further and theorizing that she’s some sort of heavenly being. Perhaps even… wait for it… a child of God? Now, before you dismiss my theory as being a total reach, hear me out:

  • As I mentioned earlier, Mallory is the only character Michael seems to genuinely fear. And during his post-scuffle chat with Papa Satan, he declared, “I thought I destroyed them all.” Many viewers assumed that “them” meant “witches,” but since Michael had just spoken to Dinah about how “powerful” she is, that couldn’t be the case. He knows there are still witches out there, so Mallory must be something… else.
  • Given Apocalypse‘s recurring themes of gender politics and religion, it stands to reason that the son of Satan would be taken down by the daughter of God (or a goddess).
  • Upon witnessing Mallory’s ability to heal a wounded deer — and reverse its aging process — Myrtle marveled, “It was unlike any magic I have ever seen.” Given her age and experience, you’d think Myrtle would have seen everything that a witch was capable of by now.
  • When Lourd’s character was revealed to reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, she was presented as “Mallory… just Mallory.” Last names offer clues about where someone comes from, so could it be that Mallory has no earthly lineage?
  • The name Mallory also translates to “the unfortunate one” or “the unlucky one.” Either way, it’s the perfect name for someone who was born to sacrifice herself for the greater good.
  • But what really has me stuck on the idea of Mallory being heaven-sent is her willingness to serve others. Despite being smarter and more powerful than Coco, Mallory is down to be her right-hand woman, just as Jesus raised eyebrows when he chose to wash his disciples’ feet. (That’s right, I stayed awake in Sunday School. Occasionally.)
